On Tuesday night 27th of September, 2022. It was gathered that the Divisional Crime Officer (DCO) in Iganna police station and one suspect who is a fulani man that was in police custody at the Station in Iganna were killed as a result of the attack from angry mob who are suspected to be from Igangan in Ibarapa North Local Government Area.
According to one of the residents in that area who pleaded anonymity told our reporter that, a vehicle loaded with contrabands met some officers of Nigeria Police Force at the checking point in Iganna area of Iwajowa Local Government and was stopped on check points for searching. The driver in an attempts to prevent the police from searching and checking his vehicle offers the police money and police rejects the money and insist to search his vehicle, in an act of arguments and provocation, the police pointed gun at the driver in light of that the driver started dragging gun with the Police and eventually leads to accidental discharge, which the driver was shot at leg. Immediately, another occupants of the vehicle made a call to their people in Igangan about the incident and mobilize people to attack the station.
In less than two hours to the incident, angry mob suspected to be from Igangan both men and women arrived at the Police Station fully armed, killed the DCO, superintendent of police (SP) identified as Odey and a Fulani man who is in detention as a suspect at Police custody, the DPO and one Inspr Haruna was matcheted, all other suspects in the custody of police were freed while several other Police men who sustained bullet injury were taken to the hospital for treatment after the attack.
Spokesperson to the Nigeria Police Force, Oyo State Police Command, SP Adewale Osifeso was contacted immediately to confirm the incident on Wednesday morning, and he confirmed the attack to be true and responded “Yes The Commissioner of Police Adebowale Williams is on his way to the place. We are already in Oke Ogun as we speak.” the PPRO said.
